About Amy Gissen
Hi, welcome to my site. My name is Amy and I live in New York City. I am an ardent traveler, have visited 45 countries, and hope to augment that number.
I believe that travel has the potential to transport not only the physical body but also the mind and spirit and to reveal one’s inner essence. The excitement that is integral to visiting a new place is enhanced by a feeling of freedom that is unmatched.
I have journeyed with friends, family, lovers, and people I have met on the road, but most frequently as a solo backpacker. Traveling solo has enhanced my jaunts by way of compelling me to face challenges and joys that are unique to that style. I treasure each experience, the people I have met, the friends I have kept, the education I have acquired, and the exposure to new cultures I have gained.
I started taking photos as a teenager when my father gifted me my first camera. Photography is a wonderful form of expression, both present and enduring. When I look at my travel photos, I am energetically drawn back to the locations and moments of the images. My wish is that you enjoy my work and be motivated to travel or find your expressive voice.
Travel can be romantic in all meanings of the word, dreamy, exciting, exotic, mysterious, adventurous, and amorous. I have been roused to write about some of my romantic episodes. I invite you to read a compilation of four short travel romances in the memoir style, entitled “Take Your Pleasure” by clicking on the {stories} link. I hope you are intrigued and curious about my coming book.
Soon I will be completing the publication of a memoir that encompasses all of the above descriptions of romance. It is a saga that took place in the late nineteen eighties, before the internet, when backpacking was mystical and full of wonder in its surrender to serendipity. This website is a canvas for my adventures, stories, images, and perspectives. Through my lens and words, I strive to capture the essence of the places I visit and the people I meet on my journeys around the world. This is a space where I can share my experiences and I hope to inspire you to explore the world and seek your own stories.
